John 8-9 questions

Neither do I condemn you
John 8:1-11
Key Verse 11b  "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

1.       [7:53-8:2] At the end of the day before what happened (7:40-8:1)?  Early morning, on this day, where did Jesus go (2a)?  Then, what happened (2b)? Discuss what might be the purpose of Jesus in this in view of the event happened on the previous day.
2.       [3-5] At this time, whom did the scribed and the Pharisees brought before Jesus (3)? What did they ask Jesus (4-5; Ref. Deut 22:22)? Why (7:21-23; Mark 2:17)?
3.       [6-7] What was their purpose in doing this (6a; Cf. Mark 2:10)? Then, what did Jesus do (6b)? Why? What did they insist Jesus to do (7a)? Then, what did Jesus do and tell them to do (7b; Ref. Deut 17:7)?
4.       [8-9] What did Jesus do again (8)? Why? Then what did they do (9)? Discuss why they left one by one (Cf. John 16:8-11).
5.       [10-11] Then, what did Jesus ask her (10)? What was her answer (11a)? What would Jesus not do and what did Jesus tell her to do (11)?
6.       Discuss what this event reveals through the Scribes and the Pharisees, the woman, and Jesus in regard to man’s sin and carrying out its judgment.



I am the light of the world
John 8:12-30
Key Verse 8:12
1.       [12-13]What word did Jesus give to them (12; Cf. 6:35,58)?  What does this mean (Ps 56:12-13; 27:1; 37:5; 139:12)? Why did the Pharisees not accept his word (13)?
2.       [14-18] Why was his testimony true and correct (14a)?  Why was their judgment untrue (14b, 15a)? Why would Jesus not judge (15b)?  Even if he judges, why is it true (16-18)?
3.       [19-20] What did they ask (19a)? According to him, what was the key to find the answer to the question (19b; Cf. 5:37-38)? Where did this dispute happen (20a)? Why did anyone not seize him (20b)?
4.       [21-24] What did Jesus announce again (21; Cf. 7:33-34)? How did the Jews understand this? (22; Cf. 7:35-36) What did Jesus mean by this (23-24)?
5.       [25-30] What question did they raise again (25a; Cf. 7:27-28, 42)? Why? What was Jesus’ answer (25b)? (Cf.  7:28b-29) Why would he not say against them (26;Cf. 15b; 5:45; 12:47-48; 16:8; 9:39)? What did they not understand (27)? In reference to what (27; Cf. 21-24)? When would they know Jesus really (28)? Why (29)?
6.       By reviewing these exchanges, please find what Jesus meant by verse 12 (Cf. John 8:11b) and why they did not accept this word.

So that the blind may see
John 9:1-49
Key Verse 39 Jesus said, "For judgment, I have come into this world so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind." 5?
1.       [1-7] What did his disciples ask Jesus about the blind man (1-2)? Why (cf. 34; 5:14)? What was his answer (3)? What did he mean (Cf. 4-5)? What did Jesus do for the man (6) and tell him to do (7; Cf. Matt 20:30-34; Mark 8:23-25)? Why?
2.       [8-13] What questions did some of his neighbors raise about him (8-9a, 10)? What was his answer (9b, 11)? What did they do next (13)? Discuss what the neighbors wanted to know and why. 
3.       [14-18] What and why did the Pharisees ask him (14-15a)? What was the man’s answer (15b)? What were two opposing views on Jesus(16)? What did they ask this man again (17a) and why (Cf. 18)? What was his answer (17b)?
4.       [18-23] On examining his parents, what did the Pharisees confirm (18-20)? What would the parents not divulge (21, 23)? Why (22)?
5.       [24-34] What did the Pharisees tell the man to do after summoning him the second time (24a)? Why (24b)?  What was his answer (25)? What question did they ask the second time (26; Cf. 15a, 16a)?  What problem did he point out and what questions did he raise (27)?  In Anger, what did they tell about themselves (28-29)?   To the man, what was remarkable (30)? Why (31-33)? Why did the Pharisee throw him out (34)? 
6.       [35-41] When Jesus heard that the Pharisees threw him out, what did Jesus do (35a)? Why and for what (ref. 35b-37)?  How did he express his faith (38)? Discuss the similarity between this man and the Pharisees in their experiences and the difference in their faiths.  What did Jesus say to the people (39)? Find its meaning through the exchange between Jesus and the Pharisees (40-41)
