1.       [1-6] Whom does Jesus speak to? (1a; cf. 9:13-14,16,40) How do the thieves and robbers enter the sheep pan differently from the shepherd? (1-2) How does the shepherd lead his sheep out and pasture them (3-4a)? Why (4b)?  How about the strangers/thieves or robbers (5)? Discuss why Jesus told this to the Pharisees (9:33-38)?  

2.       2.[6-10] Why did they did not understand this (6)? How did Jesus help them (7-8)?  What is the key difference between Jesus and the thief (9-10)? Discuss what he meant by ‘find pasture’, ‘have life’ and ‘have it to the full’.

3.       [11-13] What did he declare (11)?  How is the good shepherd different from the hired hand (12-13; Ref. Ezek 34:1-6, 11-16)

4.       [14-15] Why did Jesus declare second time that he is the good shepherd (14; Ref. Ezek 34:15, 23)? What is the character of the good shepherd (14b; Ref. 1 John 3:16a)? Discuss what v15 means particularly in regard to ‘know’ (14a; 17:3, 25-26; Ref, Gal 4:9; 1 Cor 8:3)

5.       [16-18] Who are his other sheep? (16a; Ref. 4:22; 11:51-52) What did he feel compelled to do about his sheep (16b)?   Why does the Father love him? (17) Discuss what might be the reason for God’s love for Jesus(18; Ref. 10b, 11b, 15b; Heb 10:7; Phil 2:8-9)?

Key Verse 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world?

1.       [22-26] Find what the Festival of Dedication is (Ref. Wikipedia tiles on Feast of Dedication, Hanukkah, Antiochus IV Epiphanes) What did the Jews ask Jesus (23-24)? What was Jesus’ answer (25a)? What was the reason for their uncertainty on Jesus (25b-26)?

2.       [27-30] What did Jesus teach them about him and his sheep (27-28; Cf. 14-15)? What about him and his father in regard to his sheep (29-30; Ref. Ezek 34:6, 11-15, 31)? Why did he teach these to the Jews (Ref. 3a, 4b)?

3.       [31-33] What were the Jewish opponents about to do (31, Ref. 30?  Why (33; Ref. Lev 24:14; Exo 19:11-13)?

4.       [34-36] What was Jesus’ answer to the charge of blasphemy (34; Ref. Ps 82:6)? Whom did God call gods (35)? In what respect was Jesus fully qualified to be equal with God (36)?

5.       [37-39] What are the positive proofs that God is Jesus’ father (37)? What does the proof demand them of (38)? Again what did they try to do and why (39; Cf. 7:30, 32, 44; 8:20)?

6.       [40-41] Where did he go after escaping from the Jews (40)? Why did many come to him and believe him (41-42; Cf. John 1:27; Luke 7:29-30)?
