Prepare
for the coming of Jesus, the Messiah
Mark
1:1-15
Key
Verse 1:1, 15
1.
[1-3] What does Mark speak about (1)? What are
the titles of Jesus (1b)? About this beginning, what was prophesied and when
(2-3; ref. Exo 23:20; Isa 40:3; Mal 3:1; 4:5,6;)?
2.
[4-8] Who was ‘my messenger’ that came to
fulfill that prophecy (2b, 4a)? And what did he do? (3, 4b-8)? How did the
people respond to his message (5)? Why (Lev 26:40; Deut 30:1-6)? Discuss the significance
of these two: baptism and repentance. (John
3:5; Isa 55:7; Jer 18:11).
3.
[9-11] At that time who came to be baptized by
John (9)? As Jesus was coming out of the water, what was seen and heard (10-11)?
What might be the significance of these to Jesus (Ref. Ps 2:7; Isa 61:1-2)?
4.
[12-13] At once, where did the Spirit send him
(12; Cf. Isa 40:4; Hos 2:14)? For what
(13a; Cf. Mat 4:1-11)? What was with him
and who attended him(13b)?
5.
[14-15] When and where did Jesus begin
proclaiming the good news of God (14)? What is the good news of God (15, Ref. 1:1)?
6.
Discuss the significance of the wilderness for
the people and for Jesus, the Savior.
