What must I do to inherit eternal life? (Luke 10:25-37q)

What must I do to inherit eternal life?

Luke 10:25-37*
Key verse 10:25, 37

1.       [25-28] What questions did an expert in the Law ask Jesus and why (25)? In view of the message delivered by the seventy (10:9), how might this man have understood that message of the kingdom of God? What was Jesus’ counter question (26)? What was the man’s answer (27)? What was Jesus’ reply (28)? What did this mean to the man?

2.      [29-30] What other question did the man ask and why (29)? In the parable Jesus told in response to this, where was the man going and what happened to him (30)?

3.       [31-32] Who happened to see the robbed man and what did he do (31)? Who else saw the man and what did he do (32)? Why do you think they did not help the man?

4.      [33-35] Who finally stopped to help the robbed man (33a)? Describe in detail how he saved the robbed man and how much it cost him (34-35). Why did he do all this (33b)?

5.      [36-37] Which of these three was a neighbor to the robbed man and why (36-37a)? According to this, who was the neighbor the expert in the Law should love?

6.      What did Jesus’ final words mean to the man (37b; cf. 25, 29)? Discuss this in regard to the man’s question on inheriting eternal life, the Law, and Jesus’ offer (9:23; see also 1 John 3:8; 4:10; Gal 3:11,23-25)? Who is our neighbor? Why and how should we love them?
