Numbers 15-19
Key Verse 16:40b - “This was to remind the Israelites that no one except a descendant of Aaron should come to burn incense before the LORD, or he would become like Korah and his followers.”
1. [15:1-40] After the Israelites entered the land, when, how, and to whom should they offer grain offerings (1-12; 13-16; 17-21)? When this community or someone within the community unintentionally failed to keep God’s commands, what were they to do respectively (24-29; 30-31)? Why? What other things were they instructed to do (32-40)? Discuss what might have been the purpose of all the commands given in this chapter, in view of Israel’s rejection of the land of God’s promise ( ch.13-14).
2. [16:1-15] Who rose against Moses (1-2a)? With whom did they rise up in rebellion (2b)? How (3)? What were the key issues in question here (5)? What was this opposition’s purpose (10 -11)? What were the reasons for Eliab’s sons’ opposition (12-14)? What was Moses’ plea to the Lord concerning this situation (15)?
3. [16:16-40] When all of the priests of Israel presented themselves to the Lord with their censors (16-19), what did the Lord tell Moses to do (20-21)? What did Moses and Aaron plead for and how did God carry out His judgment (22, 23-35)? What did God instruct the priests about their censors (36-39)? Why (40)?

Numbers 21:1-25
Key Verse: 8-9;17-18
1. [1-3] In this passage, where was Israel and where were they headed (20:1, 14, 20-21)? What did the Canaanite king Arad do (21:1)? What did Israel ask the Lord and what was His answer to them (2-3a)? What did Israel do to the Canaanites in response to God’s direction (3b)? Discuss the significance of this, in regard to Israel’s upcoming journey toward the land of God’s promise.
2. [4-5] What route did Israel take and why (4)? Find the route they took and its terrain in the map. Why did the people become impatient (4b-5)? In their impatience, what did they do (5)? How was this dissimilar to the previous event (21:2), in regards to their attitude toward God? Why?
3. [6-9] What happened next (6)? Since many were sick and dying, what did they say and what did they ask Moses (7)? What did God tell Moses to do (8a)? Why (8b)? When the Israelites did what the Lord had commanded, what happened to them (9)?
4. Look up the previous, similar incidents that occurred along Israel’s journey (water: Exodus 15:22-27, 17:1-7; food: Exodus 16:1; Numbers 11:4-35; water and food: Numbers 20:1-13). Compare these with the situation they were currently facing and find any similarities and differences. Discuss why God repeatedly led them into such a harsh environment. What similarities and differences (v1-3) do you find, particularly in regards to their attitude toward God, as compared with previous events?
5. [10-20] When they got to Arnon, what did Israel sing about (14-15)? When they got to Beer, what did God say (16)? Why did Israel sing (17-18)?
6. [21-35] Find where and how Israel defeated the king of Sihon (21-25)? What did the poet sing about (27-30)? How did Israel defeat Og, the king of Bashan (32-35)? Discuss why Israel was filled with songs three times during this period (cf. Exodus 15:1-21; Numbers 9:16-23) and its significance as they were nearing the end of this journey (ref. Numbers 11:1-3).
