John 4:27-42

1. [27] Why were his disciples surprised when they came back (27a; cf. 4:8)? Why did they not ask him (27b, Cf. 9c)?
2. [28-30] What did the woman do then and why (28-29; cf. 25-26)? What changes do you see in her (Cf. 7,9,11,15,19-20)? What was the response of the town people (30)?  Why?
3. [31-33] What did the disciples urge Jesus to do and why (31, ref. 6)?  What was his reply (32)? How did the disciples understand this (33)?
4. [34-38] What was Jesus’ food? (34, Cf. 35) When was the regular harvest time (35a)? Why was this harvest a surprise (35b-36; Cf. Mic 6:15; Lev 26:16)? Who were the sower and the reaper (36-37; cf. 34; Mat 25:26; John 12:24)?  What’s its significance and implication for the disciples (38)?    
5. [39-42] What were the woman’s testimony and its impact on the Samaritans (39)? What did they ask Jesus to do and why (40a)? After staying two more days with them, what happened (41-42)? Discuss this in view of what Jesus said in v35-38, particularly in regard to v38 and its implication for the disciples.
