John 4:43-5:16
Key Verse 5: 50b The man took Jesus at his word and departed
1. [43-47] When Jesus arrived in Galilee, how did the people accept him and why (43-45; Cf. 2:23-24)? When he visited Cana again, who came to see Jesus (46-47a)? What did he ask Jesus to do (47b)? Why?
2. [48-49] What weakness or problem did Jesus point out to him(people) (48)? What did the official insist Jesus do (49)?
3. [50-54] What did Jesus tell him to do (50a)? How did this man follow Jesus’ word (50b)? On his way home, what did he ask his servants from home and why (51-52a)? What was the answer? (52b) Why did he and his whole family come to believe Jesus (53)? Discuss what this event meant to the man particularly in regard to what Jesus said in v48.
4. [5:1-9] When and where did Jesus see a man invalid for thirty- eight years (1-5)? What did Jesus ask this man and why (6)? What was his answer? (7) What did Jesus say to him (8)? Why? Then what happened (9)?
5. [10-16] Who rebuked this man and of what (10)? When Jesus met the man, what did Jesus warn him of? (14) Why? (11-13, 15) What did the Jewish leaders begin to do and why (16)?
6. Discuss the effects of Jesus miracles on the royal officer, the invalid man, and the Jewish leaders and find why they were different. Find what it means now for you to take Jesus’ word and go.
