Luke 1:5-37
Key verse 35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
1. [5-17] Find about Zechariah and his wife (5-7). How did he come to serve in the temple and what happened in the temple (8-13; 1 Chron 23, 24)? What did the angel reveal about his son-to-be-born (14-17; Ref. 1 kings 18:20-40)?
2. [18-25] What was Zechariah’s question? Why? Who was the angel (18-19; Dan 8:15-25; 9:20-27)? What was the answer of the Angel (20)? When Zechariah came out, what did the people come to know about him (21-22)? What happen to Elizabeth? What was her response (23-25)?
3. [26-27] To whom did God send the angel Gabriel and when? (26) Who was Mary? (27)
4. [28-33] What was the Angel’s greeting to Mary? (28) What was Mary’s response and why? (29) What was God’s favor to her? (30-31) What would her son become? (32a) What would God give to him? (32b) What would he do? (33)
5. [34-37] Why was it difficult for her to believe this? (34) How would that be fulfilled? (35a) Who would her son to be born? (35b) How did the angel convince her and why? (36-37) What was Mary’s decision (38)?
6. In the two messages delivered by Gabriel, find the difficulties that Zechariah and Mary faced. How were they helped by God to overcome those difficulties? Also, discuss why God used the angel Gabriel to deliver these messages to both Zechariah and Mary.(Dan 8:16; 9:21)
