David’s throne will remain secure (1 Kings 2q)

1 Kings 2:1-46
Key Verse; 45 But King Solomon will be blessed, and David's throne will remain secure before the LORD forever."
1.       [2:1-9] What charge did David give his son Solomon (1-3a)? Why (3b-4)? What further directives did he give concerning Joab (5-6), Barzillai (7; 2 Sam 19:31-39), and Shimei (5-9; 2 Sam 16:5-8; 19:16-23)?
2.       [10-12] How long did David reign the country (10-11)? At his father’s death, what was noted on Solomon’s kingship (12)?
3.       [13- 25] What request did he make to Bathsheba (16-17)? On what premise (15)? When Bathsheba made that request for Adonijah, what was his answer (22-23)? Why did he feel justified to put him to death (24-25)?
4.       [26-27] How did he deal with Abiathar (26-27)? Why (Ref 1 Sam 2:30-35; 1 Kings 1:7)? Why did Joab flee to the tent of the Lord (28)? What did Solomon command Benaiah to do to him (31; 34)?  Why was it right thing to put him to death (32-33)?
5.       [36-46] What restriction did Solomon put on Shimei (36-37; Ref. 2 Sam 16:5; 19:16-23)? Why? How did Shimei accept the king’s order (38)?  When and how did he come to violate the king’s order (39-40)? How did Solomon reason with Shimei as he delivered death penalty (42-44,46a)?
6.       Find the ultimate purpose of punishing these four (24, 33, 45; 1:7) and what of each of these four characters posed a challenge to the Kingdom/Kingship that God established. (1:52; 2:24, 2:32, 2:42a) Also, find and discuss what the foundation of the kingdom was and what it takes to uphold it. Also find how it similar to and different from Jesus’ Kingship. Discuss how they might be applicable to us or to this age.
