Rom 7:1-25
Key verse: 25b So
then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a
slave to the law of sin.
1. [1-6] To whom does Paul speaking (1a)? For a
married woman, when or how many ways can she get over with the Law of marriage
obligation (1b-3; Ref. 6:9, 14)? What’s its implication on our relationship
with the Law? Then when and how and did
we get over with the authority of the law (4a)?
For what purpose (4b)? Why was it necessary (5)? Now, how can we serve in the new
way of the Spirit (6)?
2. [7-13] What question is raised about the law
(7)? Why would one raise such a question (Ref. 7:4-6)? Why is the law not sinful
(8-11)? Then, what is the role of the law (12-13)?
3. [14-20] How does a conflict come to fore
between the law and “I” (14)? What is the thing that he wants to do? What is
the thing that he does not want to do (15b-16a)? How does the law help him
understand these two? (15b, 16b, 17)?
4. [18-20] What does he know about himself and how
(18)? How is he convinced of the fact that it is his sinful nature that is at
work (19-20)? Why is this so important for him to know this?
5. [21-25a] What is this law (21a)? On what
does this law work (21b)? How does the law work on two fronts in him (22-23)?
What does this result in (24)? How or where did he find the way out of this
conflict within him (25a)?
6. [25b] What is the sober fact of life in
Christ that Paul accepts? Discuss what it means and how it is applicable to
you. Discuss the role of the law in the life of believers.
