John 12:1-11

1. [1-2] When did Jesus come to Bethany? (1a) What had happened there? (1b; cf. Ch. 11) What was a dinner given for and why? (2a) Who might have come to this dinner (ref. 9) and how did Lazarus and his families help support this dinner (2b)?
2. [3] What did Mary take and do with it in the middle of the dinner (3a)? What happened as a result (3b)? Discuss why she did (Ref. 11:40; 17:6-8) and the effect of her action on those who attended (Ref.11:40, 45-57).
3. [4-6] Who objected this (4)? What was his rationale? (5) What was the real reason? (6) Discuss Judas’ understanding of the work that Jesus did for Lazarus and the result of such belief (4b; Ref 11:8-10; 40, 45-50; Cf. 17:6-7).
4. [7-8] How did Jesus respond to Judas’ argument? (7) What did Jesus mean (Cf. 20:1-2, 11-12)? According to Jesus, why was it well justified? (8; Ref. 11:40; Cf. 11:46-47; 12:1a) Discuss what Jesus revealed and taught through what Mary did (ref. 11:4; 12:16; 17:1, 4.; Exo 20:24; 2 Thes 1:12)
