Spring up, O well! (Num 21q)

Num 21:1-25
Key Verse 8-9/17-18
1.                   [1-3] Where was Israel and where were they going? (20:1,14,20-21) What did Canaanite King Arad did? (21:1)Then what did Israel ask the Lord and what was His answer? (2-3a) So what did Israel do to them? (3b) Discuss its significance in regard to their forth coming journey to the land of God’s promise.
2.                   [4-5] What route did they take and why? (4) Find the route and its terrain in the map. Why did they become impatient? (4b-5)  In their impatience, what did they do? (5) How was this dissimilar to the previous event (21:2) in their attitude toward God? Why?
3.                   [6-9] Then what happened? (6) As many were sick and dying what did they say and ask to Moses? (7) What did God tell Moses to do? (8a) Why?(8b) When they did so, what happened to them? (9)  
4.                   Find the previous occasions of the similar incidents (water :Exo 15:22-27; 17:1-7; food: Exo 16:1; Num 11:4-35 ; water and food Num 20:1-13).  Compare this with them and find similarity and difference. Discuss why God led them to such an environment repeatedly. What similarities to and differences from the previous event (v1-3) do you find particularly in regard to their attitude toward God?
5.                   [10-20] When they got to Arnon, what did they sing about? (14-15) When they got to Beer, what did God say?(16)  What about and why did Israel sing? (17-18)

6.                   [21-35] Find where and how Israel defeated the king Sihon (21-25) What did the poet sing about? (27-30) How did Israel defeat Og, the king of Bashan? (32-35) Discuss why Israel were filled with songs three times in this period (cf. Exo 15:1-21; Num 9:16-23) and its significance as they were making the end of this journey (ref. Num 11:1-3).
