Come out of this man! (Mark 5aq)

COME OUT OF THIS MAN!

Mark 5:1-20

Key verse 5:8*

1.      What was the experience of the disciples on their boat trip to the Gerasenes? (4:39-41) Find about the region of the Gerasenes, its location and demographics.( 14, 20)

2.      Who came to meet Jesus as he was landing at the lake shore? (2) What was his life style? What was his relationship with others and his struggle within himself? (3-5) What was the cause of his problems?(2,9, 13)

3.      Think about the effects of an evil spirit on a man’s life.(1 Sam16:14-23; 18:10-12)

4.      Read v5-6. How did the man identify Jesus? What was his fear and his plead for Jesus? According to v8, who was talking to Jesus?

5.      Why did Jesus ask his name even if He knew that the evil spirit was in control over the man’s life? How did the evil spirits identify themselves?

6.      How was the authority of Jesus’ word stalled by the evil spirits? What was the begging of the evil spirits? What was the primary purpose of such a request? (10) How persistent was the request? (10-12)

7.      How did Jesus handle that request? (13) Why? With Jesus’ permission, what did the evil spirits do? Discuss the impact of the deaths of 2,000 pigs  in the minds of the towns’ people. What was the outcome of the act of the evil spirits on the town’s people?(15)

8.      Why were the people of the town captured by ‘fear’ instead of peace? How did the demons succeed in their goal? What was the primary concern of the people of the town? How did the evil spirits succeed in creating a fear of uncertain power over their lives?

9.      What was the request of the man out of whom the evil spirits were driven? What did Jesus tell him to do? What might be the reason? What was the outcome of the new life in this man?

10.  Think about evil spirits’ power over men, their demands, and Jesus’ authority over them, and discuss the  implication of this authority over evil to our present life.
