BE DRESSED FOR SERVICE
Luke 12:35-48
Key verse 12:42
1. Read the whole passage. What is the topic of this teaching? What is the purpose of this teaching? Why might this be an odd teaching for the disciples?(41) Where can you find similar passage and what setting was this talk given in the other Gospels? (Mk 13:33-37; Mat 24:43-51)
2. Read v 35-37. What is anticipated and how one must prepare for this? What does “being dressed and ready for service” mean? About keeping lamps burning? (36-37)
3. Read v 38-40. How does the time of Jesus’ coming play in the minds of people? Think about an hour when you do not expect in terms of length and unexpectedness.
4. Read v41. What puzzled Peter?
5. Read v42. To whom is this teaching? What is entrusted to the faithful and wise manager? How long was he expected to do? What will be the reward?
6. Read v45. What might be the reason for the servant failing in his duty? What is the fatal mistake for the servant? How grave is the outcome of the unfaithful servant?
7. What is the difference in God’s expectation between the one who knows the master’s will and one who does not know? What are the privileges that you have and how did you or do you handle it?
8. Read v42-48. What is the similarity and difference between this and the previous one? How can this be an answer to Peter’s question?
