Hungry even for Children’s crumbs (Mark 7q)

Mark 7:1-37

Key Verse 37b “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

1.                   [1-5] Who were the Pharisees and the teachers of the Law (1,3-4)? What did they notice (2)? What did they ask Jesus (5)?

2.                   [6-13] What did Isaiah say about such people like the Pharisees and teachers of the Law (6-7; Isa 29:13)? According to Jesus, what was the reason for such behavior (8-13)?

3.                   [14-21] What makes one defile (14-15)? What does this mean (17-19)?  What is the root of the defilement of man (20-23)? Then, discuss what people must do.

4.                   [24-30] When and how Jesus went to the vicinity ty of Tyre (24)?  Who came to see Jesus (24-26a)? Why (26b)? How and why did was Jesus reject her request (27)? What was her answer to Jesus’ rejection (28)? What was Jesus’ answer (29)? Then what happened to her daughter (30)? Discuss what of herself she counted worthy of Jesus’ blessing or what of her Jesus counted worthy of his blessing.

5.                   [31-37] Where did Jesus go next (31)? Whom did some people bring to him (32) and begged for what? What did Jesus do for this man (33)?   Then what happened to this man (34)?  What did Jesus command the people (36)? But what did the people of the town talk about Jesus (37)?

6.                   Compare and discuss the faith of the Pharisee and teachers of the Law, with that of the woman in Tyre and of some men in Decapolis. As a whole what do these stories teach us?
