By faith in Christ, we received the credit of righteousness (rom 4q)

Rom 4:1-25

Key Verses 23-24 23 The words "it was credited to him" were written not for him alone, 24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness--for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

1.      [1] What is the commanding truth that has been laid (3:22)? Against this, what question is raised (3:31)? Why would the life of Abraham and David be so important in proving this truth (Cf. 3:21; Abraham: 1, 6; Exo 3:6-9; Mat 3:9; David: 6; 1:3; Mat 20:31; 2 Sam 7:12-13)? 

2.      [2-8] About the righteousness of Abraham, what does the scripture say (3; Ref. Gen 15:6; Heb 11:17-18)? What’s its implication (4-5; Ref. 3:24)? What did David speak about the credit of righteousness received from God apart from works?  (6-8; Ps 32:1-2)? And on what occasion did he speak about this?

3.      [9-12] Concerning this blessing, what question was raised (9a)? How does God’s offer of the covenant to Abraham give the answer (10b-12)?

4.      [13-17] Through what did Abraham receive the promise to be the heir of the world (13)? Why could it be not possible through the Law (14-15)? What’s the implication of ‘the promise come by faith’ (16-17)?

5.      [18-25] According to v18-21, define the faith of Abraham in your own terms. Why did the Lord count his faith worthy to receive such a blessed credit (22; Ref Gen 22:12, 16-19)?  What was God’s ultimate purpose in giving such credit to Abraham (23-24)? How was this purpose revealed (25; 1:17)?
